Cabinet's to Go to the Trash

My Closing Statement:

Dear ______________,

The cabinet doors were received and well wrapped.  Regrettably your logistics people at cabinets to go just don't understand the difference between container packing/shipping vs truck packing/shipping.  They are two different things.  The packaging the the cabinet doors sit in is very thing and poor causing the doors to rub and shift in the boxes regardless of exterior bubble wrap.  About 40-50% of the doors came in with surface scratches on them.  We used the lesser of the two evils so to speak and replaced or kept the damaged doors depending on the level of damage.

We are done with cabinet's to go right to the curb.  It was not worth saving a little money to go through this disaster lesson learned.

I shall never recommend anyone use your product.  This was a terrible experience. We were beyond patient and understanding and all we received in the end was a junk product, total lack of urgency and zero compensation for the insurmountable amount of problems.

Thank you for your attempts at customer service unfortunately I have not dealt with a worse company than Cabinets To Go in my years of business in remodeling.

I hope they treat you better than they treat the customers, otherwise I would look for a new job.

The Back Story

Once upon a time in the age of the internets, an inexpensive cabinetry company was formed.  They specialized in great looking cabinetry at a great price.  They even happened to be feautered on a number of Home Improvement shows which made them a star for affordable kitchen remodeling.

As a designer, I generally stay with the tried and true.  In order to get to that phase you still need to try and false if you will.  My friend Joe wanted to remodel his kitchen and wanted to do it on a budget.  I thought, Hey I may have just the thing for him!  And so became the great cabinet debachery of 2010-11.

Everything went well, we ordered the cabinets, called the local store (aka CT) then had to call back to verify some pieces.  When we called the same number back we were rerouted to NJ store.  They we able to pull up the order and add to it and place the order.  They said 2-3 weeks max for the delivery.

Those weeks went by and we called and left messages and were routed around and then finally someone answered and they said that the cabinets were going to be there Monday.  To my surprise I found it odd as it was Saturday.  And as suspected to good to be true, no cabinets on Monday.

This went on for about 6 weeks with 2 different deliveries actually scheduled then no one showed up.  After that, the cabinets finally came.  The boxes were destroyed, parts were missing and the whole thing was a mess.  We assembled what we could and started placing cabinets.  After assembling the pics of the damage and the missing parts it took about another week to get someone to get us replacement cabinets issued.  Then that took another almost month to get the missing parts and cabinets.  However we still did not have replacement doors for the ones that were scratched.  Instead we were told they were going to make us new doors.  There were no discounts at this time for the craziness.  Another month goes by and we are told the cabinets will be in soon and not to worry.  They never came per usually.  Then randomly last Friday they showed up.  We ordered the cabinets on October 17th.  We got the newly damaged replacement doors Last Friday.  No extra discounts, terrible customer services, no follow-ups,  nothing.

We saved about $1500 when it was all said and done, maybe less. It cost me about double that in wasted time and aggravation.  DO NOT try and save a penny by buying anything major like this online.  I do this for a living.  I never tried buying cabinets online cheaper but I would have rather just went to IKEA.  They have much better customer service.

A terrible experience but at least we are still friends and I can work magic on making things look good.  Thank Guardsman for stain pens!

The moral of this lesson is that by being cheap, it will only cost you more in the end.

Designfully Yours,

-Jlo
